Bag Lady/Man

If you are unfamiliar with the term Bag Lady I strongly suggest you google “Bag Lady Erykah Badu” before continuing to read this post. For those who don’t have time or care not to I will provide a quick definition.

Bag Lady (or Man): An individual who cannot let go of past baggage, hurt, relationships, experiences etc.

Message: Pack Light

It seems every blog post that I write always comes back to this similar idea. The idea that you must always take inventory of what you allow yourself to be filled with/influenced by.  Everything you entertain influences you, everything you hold on to affects you, and everything that you pursue can limit or advance you. The bible says it best:

“Neither is new wine put into old wine skins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wine skins, and so both are preserved.”- Matthew 9:17

Now what does this mean? New wine will bust old wine skins because the old wine skins aren’t strong enough to handle the potency and the intensity of the wine. How does this apply to you? God won’t pour anything into you that you cannot handle. This is great because you know that everything you come in contact with you have the means to overcome however the flip side begs the question: what you are doing currently that shows God that you aren’t ready? What actions are you participating in that’s stopping God from giving you what you’ve been on your knees every night begging for? What hurt are you holding on to where God can see that you’re not in the place you need to be to take the next step towards your calling? What are you carrying that’s slowing you down from reaching your purpose?

One thing a lot of people tend to forget is that you have free will and that God will never violate that right. This means you have the right to make bad choices, to think crazy thoughts, to participate in various activities, etc. All God can do is to try to provide you with a way of escape and hope that you take it. The bible explains that:

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it”- 1 Corinthians 10:13

I say that to say this: You are in charge of what you carry, make the choice to pack light.

Take Away: You Gone Miss Your Bus

It’s time to be proactive and eliminate items that have no business in your life. It’s time to stop leaning on the idea of “I’ll get there some day” and to push towards the idea of “Are we there yet?” Don’t get me wrong, God is notorious for using people regardless of their perceived progress, but the overall goal in life isn’t to slip back into wrong, its to push forward towards what God shows you is right. The more time you spend making the same mistakes, dwelling in the same worldly thoughts, following the same negative actions the longer its going to take you to reach your full potential.

I need you to realize that: you can’t catch the bus if your aren’t standing at the stop.
