Today I will be coming from John 9:1-3. I want to tackle the topic of intentional. At times we tend to beat ourselves up over the trials and tribulations we face thinking that we are at fault. Well after reading this scripture it became apparent to me that everything God put in us is intentional and every battle has a purpose. I want to focus on this scripture in two parts to break down my revelation I had while reading.

Part 1

“Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” – ‭‭John ‭9:1-2 ESV

This scripture is relevant to present day life because we all have certain handicaps that we were born with. The only difference is that ours may not be as visible as someone who has a physical handicap. Everyday we struggle with things that we have inherited whether that is attitude, trouble with finances, substance abuse, mental and physical health issues etc. and people continue to point and wonder “who sinned.” People try to make sense of why we are how we are yet they know nothing about us. They know nothing about Gods plan for us.

>Not Everyone is meant to help you with your handicap<

  1. If the disciples themselves did not think to help this man, and went straight to focusing on the wrong that they assumed had been done. Do not be shocked if something similar happens to you. When you make your internal handicap visible be aware that some will only show up to ridicule you and not help. However, do not be afraid to share your internal handicap because that is your testimony and through the sharing of testimony is how people see they aren’t alone. Your testimony is someones ticket. A front row ticket to the glory of God. SHARE by sharing you SHOW someone that it is possible to overcome their handicap and you create a support system for yourself and others who identify with your handicap
  2. Not everyone is in a space where they can look past your handicap and see the good that God is trying to bring from it. Not everyone is equipped to help you transform and overcome. Be careful with who you take advice from. If they cannot see where God is trying to take you then they can’t help you and any advice they give you will only set you back. Pray and dive into the word to assure that the people who do show up to help are actually meant to help you.

Part 2

Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.”-John 9:3

Now this is a small statement, yet to me this is incredibly powerful. Take a second and think about all the things within you that you have been fighting since birth. The mountains that have been passed down through your blood for centuries. The internal battles you fight everyday as people stare at you and ask “Who sinned.” Jesus just said they have a purpose. All these things you are battling were placed there intentionally so you could overcome them. And through overcoming these situations and breaking the cycle the works of God will be revealed.

>Some struggles are sown in order for others to see Gods true power.<

  1. Trust God. He has given you life and he has given you purpose and don’t you ever forget it. Even though it may look like the internal handicaps are anchors holding you in a place where you can’t move forward do not give in to that mentality. See your internal handicaps as bricks. They may be heavy and a burden to carry but if used right they can be used to pave a road that will lead you to your purpose in life.
  2. Be an overcomer. It is in your blood to overcome everything that you encounter. Don’t believe me? Check the Bible “For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith.” 1 John 5:4 ESV. Yes we have internal handicaps but they are not meant to stay there forever. If you have daddy issues, attitude problems, drinking problems, issues with authority, trouble with finances, substance abuse issues, etc. God gave you the power to overcome it through your faith and other support systems. You will make it through and you will overcome…God’s reputation is on the line so you can best believe he wouldn’t give you anything too dense to where his glory couldn’t shine through. God’s got just have to use your earthly and spiritual support system to help you make the right choices to bring you out of your handicap.

As the scripture goes on it reveals that Jesus anointed the mans eyes with mud and said to him to go wash the mud off in the pool of Siloam. The man went and came back being able to see. Everything has a purpose, do not let people steal your purpose with their words or their ridicule.

In the words of Travis Greene..”All things are working for my good, he’s intentional…never failing.”
